Me siento genial.

Ozzy, Pantera, Alice in Chains, ¡me encanta todo!

Por ejemplo, «Down the Drain» me pareció muy Soundgarden. ¿Coincidencia?

¿Qué aporta Eddie a tu estilo?

¡Eddie manda!

Hi Jared, thank you very much for your time and just tell you that it is an pleasure to be able to exchange some words with you! Let’s go ! How are you?

I am so good! So happy to chat with you and to have my brand new record!! Back on the road, ready to rock!

Humanity has recently experienced a very important shock. World crisis, Covid, war… How has it affected you on a personal / band level?

I have tried to live more in the moment and be present. Every day is a blessing and I’m grateful to play music after the craziness of these past few years. I have learned to love more as well and stay happy!

In few years your career has skyrocketed, you’ve gone from being a debut player to playing at most festivals, how do you deal with the “vertigo”?

It’s funny because I feel like I haven’t had the time yet to deal with what is happening! I am so in the moment and having fun that I feel like I’m still climbing mountains daily. I feel accomplished to now be playing bigger shows and getting my name out there. It feels great!

And not only in the USA are you managing to stand out, in a short time you have traveled half of Europe… We would like you to tell us how you lived those tours, the nerves, the trips, the languages, the illusion… What can you say about it?

Wild times! Everyday was an adventure! Usually I had no idea where I was, only in what country. Touring in Europe has been a dream come true. It has been incredible to be able to travel playing music and connecting with music lovers across Europe. I have a feeling we have a lot more exciting times ahead!!

We are going to tackle the subject of influences. Which bands have inspired the band in some way both at the level of creativity and at the level of your live performances?

There has been a ton! I have always been very influenced by guitar driven artists. Leslie West and Mountain, Steve Ray Vaughan, Johnny Winter, Robin Trower, the list goes on! But I also grew up listening to heavy rock and metal as well. Ozzy, Pantera, Alice in Chains, I love it all! I’ve tried to mix all of it together for my live shows and creativity. I love wearing my influences on my shoulder but playing music my own way.

Well, it’s been a few weeks since we’ve played your latest record in our newsroom. Entitled «Jared James Nichols», an album of twelve songs and just over 40 minutes long. The album is awesome, congratulations. I dare to say that it is your best album, the most mature. Do you think the same?

I feel that way yes! That is why I named it self titled. It feels like it is who I truly am as an artist. From the top to bottom it had an energy, rawness, and a great group of songs to really rock. This was my first album I really sat and thought about how I could really make my mark moving forward.

I have found many moments on the album with a sound very close to grunge. For example, “Down the Drain” seemed very Soundgarden to me. Coincidence? My imagination? Or have you just brought to light an adolescent side of Jared?

Definitely very Soundgarden! With these songs and this record, I didn’t want it to just be another safe bluesy record. I have a ton of different influences and I wanted to show them all! I did my best to just get out of the way and let the music go where it wanted to. There are elements of grunge, heavy Sabbath stuff, and blues…I love it all!

What if we find ourselves again is the influence of Black Sabbath in songs like the great “Hallelujah“. A heavier song that contrasts with your warm voice. How did Sabbath influence your current style?

Yes! Sabbath has always been a massive influence on me! The first riff I ever learned was Electric Funeral by Sabbath. There is something so pure and simple with Sabbath style, it’s like a musical religion. I would say the riffs were very influential on my new album.

Eddie Spear is the producer of your latest record. Eddie has collaborated with artists like Slash and Rival Sons. How was the experience of working with him? What does Eddie bring to your style?

Eddie rules! He brought such a fresh energy to the whole recording experience. He and I have a lot of influences in common, but also we both love to take risks in the studio. No fear to fail! He always had the approach to keep it live, raw, and real. No matter what we were recording we were always in the right headspace with Eddie producing.

I could see you at Hellfest 2017 and in Barcelona 2020. Your shows tend to be very intense, is your main goal to feel close to the public since the start?

Absolutely. I love the live connection, there is nothing like it. I thrive on that experience and always want to go to that space. Even with this record, I wanted to feel close and put that same energy on the album.

Your way of playing has always surprised me, you barely use a pick…

Haha, yep. I’m a lefty, so I never liked using a pick! It has lended me to doing quite a different style, but it’s all my own.

What can we expect from Jared in the future?

A ton of touring and support for this brand new record. I am ready to play this album for anyone who is ready to hear it! So excited!

Life encourages us to dream, to meet goals that we have in mind. What realistic dreams does Jared still have that you want to fulfill?

My dream is to be able to continue to tour around the world and make the music I love. I want to inspire fans of this music and bring an awesome soundtrack for years and years to come.

In a few days you will come to Spain. I understand that it is one of your favorite countries to play. Do you want to send a greeting to your Spanish fans?

Yes, I love Spain! Spanish fans are so much fun, they love the music as much as I do! It’s always a party every time we come to play in Spain. Spain, get ready bluespower is coming! Let’s rock ‘n’ roll!

Well , thanks for all, congratulations for the new and amazing album and see very soon!

Thank you and see you soon!!
