SofN: Hola, Andreas. ¡Muchas gracias por concedernos esta entrevista! Let’s go! ¿Qué tal estás?

¡Oye, no te preocupes! ¡Estoy bien, gracias!

Sin ellos, no habríamos podido escribir The New Routine.

SofN: Comentáis que bandas como Rage Against the Machine, Death from Above 1979, Queens of the Stone Age son vuestra inspiración, pero también citáis a… ¡Daft Punk y The Weeknd!

Rage Against the machine – Evil Empire
The WeekndStarboy
Death from above 1979The Physical World
Royal BloodRoyal Blood
Beastie BoysIII Communication

¿Cuándo vamos a poder volver a veros?

Saludos desde Science of Noise.

¡Gracias! ¡El gusto es mío!

SofN: Hi guys, thank you very much spending some time for giving us this interview! How are you?

Hey, no worries! I’m fine thanks!

SofN: The New Routine is just about to go out. How are those nerves going?

All good! It feels great that the album finally is out!

SofN: I’ve been listening to the album for a good couple of weeks and I can say that I think it’s your most open album, more varied, wider. This “new” style will be the «new routine» of Port Noir?

Absolutely, that is correct!

SofN: Port Noir say that «We went back to the music we grew up with and tried to find out what led us to play in a band in the first place.» Is it an involutive or evolutionary process?

It was important for us to do so before we began writing the songs for this album. It’s easy to just forget why led you to play in a band in the first place. And if we combine that feeling with newer stuff that we like, you get The New Routine.

SofN: It’s true that this album is the most different one. How do you think your fans are going to take it?

I guess it is. In so many ways it feels like this is our debut album. It takes time for a band to really find it’s identity. And every album that led up to this has been important. Without them, we had not been able to write The New Routine.

We can only write music that we like and moves us so we can’t think about how it’s going to be received. We can only hope that as much people as possible likes it when it’s released.

SofN: And about the album cover, simple but elegant, what do you try to portray with it?

I wanted to have something that felt modern but with a rock/punk vibe to it with some depth. I think it represent the music good visually.

SofN: Up to three producers have gone through this new work, Daniel Bergstrand (Meshuggah and In Flames), David Castillo (Opeth, Katatonia) and Lawrence McRory (Darkane, FKU).

Why? How did you distribute the work between them?

Yes, we recorded drums, bass, guitars and synths together with David Castillo at Studio Gröndahl. The vocals we recorded ourselves this time and the mixing was handled by Daniel Bergstrand, Mastered by Lawrence Mackrory.

SofN: You mention bands like Rage Against the Machine, Death from Above 1979, Queens of the Stone Age as inspirations, but also Daft Punk and The Weeknd! What can we find of these last two in Port Noir?

Daft Punk would be the synths and The Weeknd would be some of the melodies but also one of the pop/rnb inspiration on the album.

SofN: And since we are talking about influences, tell me, if you can, five albums that have left their mark in the music of Port Noir.

Rage Against the MachineEvil Empire
The WeekndStarboy
Death from above 1979The Physical World

SofN: We saw you in Barcelona a couple of years ago with Pain of Salvation, I was there, you were very well, a very good show. I also saw you a few years ago at Köln’s Euroblast festival, the place I got to know you. I remember that both times you finished the concert with a lot of new fans that were captivated by you live. When will we be able to see you again?

We will play at this years Euroblast Festival too and we have a tour together with Leprous and The Ocean in November.

SofN: At the moment we do not see that you have announced a presentation tour of the new album. What plans do you have?

The plan is to tour as much as we can and we will start with the tour in November!

SofN: Thank you very much for your time and congratulations for your new album. Greetings from Science of Noise.

Thank you! My pleasure!
