¿Cómo te has enfrentado a esta evolución?

¡Muchas gracias!

Hi Baalberith, thank you very much for your time and just tell you that it is a pleasure to be able to exchange some words with you! Let’s go ! How are you?

Hi guys, I am doing well, thank you for your time!

A few weeks ago I can’t get out of my head Valediction, your new work, it has established darkness and sound violence as your thread. In the first half of the album you have stripped the most synthwave image to embrace black metal. How have you faced this evolution?

I feel like it has been a very natural progression for Gost. I have always been vehemently against just re-creating the same art over and over. With that in mind I have tried to progress with each release to keep the project ultimately cathartic for me personally. Being a lifelong fan of metal, more extreme elements were bound to find their way into Gost eventually.

In fact, «Commandment», the song that closes Possessor is the perfect precursor to Valediction. Chance or a premeditated fact?

Not necessarily premeditated but more of what I feel has been a natural progression.

«Wrapped in Wax» is possibly my favorite GosT track, the perfect balance between extreme metal and synthwave. What can you tell me about this song?

That’s awesome! As with all of the music on Valediction, when I was writing “Wrapped in Wax” I allowed ideas to flow freely without any concern of how I might be judged by the world(internet). This approach to writing was extremely helpful for me on a personal level. I combined whichever ideas came to mind as they came without a filter of what people might say or think.

GosT currently sounds more than ever like a full band, how do you plan to focus this new version on live shows, more musicians or will you use prerecorded parts?

I have added a live bass player and fully intend to add more musicians as soon as I can find more people who are able to be around me for extended periods of time haha… In all seriousness though, yes, I want the stage production to progress with the music. Ever growing and progressing.

Synthwave and darkwave are styles that have taken the lead in recent years with bands like Perturbator, Dance with the dead, Carpenter Brut or even more electro house bands like Justice or Lazerhawk. How do you see gender evolution and how should a band with these characteristics face the future?

I see the artists who come out of this with a successful “career” will be the ones who are willing to adapt and avoid being pigeonholed into one specific style of music. No genre lasts forever only artists who are willing to take chances and write truly from within. At least, that is how I see things.

Your shows tend to be very intense, is your main goal to feel close to the public since the start?

I have always liked to perform music live, yes. For me the intensity is natural. What happens at a Gost show is completely from the heart.

The one who has attended a synthwave show knows how your direct ones are. Can you tell us some curious thing about any of your shows?

For me personally if an audience gives me 100% that is what they will get back. As far as curious happenings at Gost shows go… I toured with like seven metal band on one tour last year and it was a massive learning experience for me. Two shows in a row had massive equipment failure forcing me to cancel the show while on stage. Humiliating is the only word that describes failing on stage. We have back up gear for our back up gear now so hopefully these types of situations are a thing of the past!

This will be your third European tour and you have expanded your comfort zone. You will come to Barcelona with two highly respected bands, Mayhem and Gaahls WYRD. How did the opportunity to turn with them?

My management and european booking agent work closely with the people who book for Mayhem. I believe the idea was pitched to Mayhem and they were totally into it, so here we are!

It will be your first visit to Barcelona and I can tell you that it will not disappoint you. What can we expect from your November 9th show?

I have only been to Spain once before but I absolutely love the people! We will bring a half hour of pure intensity and flashing lights so come ready to party with us!

Are you able to quote your five albums that have marked your evolution as an artist?

1. HeartDreamboat Annie
2. KissDestroyer
3. Simple MindsNew Gold Dream
4. NINPretty Hate Machine
5. Cannibal CorpseThe Bleeding

And the last one, What realistic dreams do you have as an artist?

I only wish to create the best art I am personally able to create and continue to do so as long as I find it enjoyable.

Well, thanks for your time. Once again, congratulations for Valediction. We are looking forward to seeing you in Barcelona in November. See you soon.

Thank you so much!
