He probado muchas bebidas españolas aunque ahora mismo no puedo recordar los nombres.

SofN: Acabáis de publicar «Live at Masters of Rock», vuestro primer disco en directo.

Creciendo y fortaleciéndose día a día.

¡Muchas gracias! ¡Nos vemos!

English version:

SofN: Hi guys, first of all, thank you very much for dedicating some time to answer these questions for Science of Noise. How are you going these days?

Thank you! It is going great! Heading to Miami at the moment. 70000 tons of metal cruise is going to be our next show.

SofN: We know you have been recording a new album. What you tell us about it? What can we expect from the new songs? When will it be ready to be released?

New material is the best Korpiklaani so far. Recordings went well and we are so excited to get the album released. Release date will be announced soon. There will be again some good party songs as well as the slower and more epic songs.

SofN: In the recording sessions a very funny atmosphere was seen and I think that is transmitted in the songs. How do you do to convey that good vibes in your songs?

I think it’s just that we all love playing and making music. The songs are how we are.

SofN: Reading other interviews Jonne has explained that the new album will be more ‘earthly’ and less about legends. What themes and topics will you be singing about?

You are right. This time the themes are not about legeds that much, but more about every day life and freedom. The album has a really natural sound and you can feel the earthly attitude on the lyrics also.

SofN: You have made clear from your songs that you quite like different types of drinks. What are your personal favorites? Have you tried the spanish Orujo or other local drinks like the catalan ratafia?

My personal favorites are beer and vodka. I have tried quite many spanish drinks ( can’t remember the names though), but all of them has been good for me at the moment. More booze-> more drunk.

SofN: I have seen that you intend to create your own brand of beer, can you explain what kind it will be? Do you love some kind in particular?

There will be a few different kind of beers, but the first one is a lager. Which is also my favourite kind of beer because of it’s easy drinkability.

SofN: You have just release
‘Live at Masters of Rock’, your first live album. Why now and why that particular show in the czech festival? You are going back to Masters of Rock this year. Is it a special place for you?

Yes, it is a special place for us. We’ve been there so many times during the years. Big stage, good lights and great atmosphere, what could be better for the live DVD? And yes we are going there this year again and it would be a special show again. But that’s all I can say about it.

SofN: We have heard that you would like to have more folk musicians up on stage with you. Do you think this is something you will be able to achieve outside occasional festival performances?

Extra folk musicians were there just for the DVD show to make he sound more rich. Generally we like to perfom with the band as it is.

SofN: How do you see the health of the folk metal scene all over the world?

Rising up and getting stronger.

SofN: And what about the finish scene? I think that lately it is in great form, specially regarding the melodic death metal subgenres, with a huge array of awesome bands. Do you feel your countries’ metal scene is stronger than ever?

Yes, it is stronger than ever. Lots of Finnish bands are touring all the time all over the world. What could be better than be part of that well doing scene.

SofN: Since the beginning of the group as Shamani Duo, your music has undergone several changes, from being a very direct music to creating more enveloping melodies while still having your personal stamp. Where is the musical future of Korpiklaani going? I believe that the best is yet to come.

Best is still to come, you are right. We always write the music what we like and the songs sound like what Korpiklaani is. That is also the future, we are not going to do anything we don’t like.

SofN: Soon you will be coming back to Spain along Heidevolk and Arkona in a tour labeled “Folk Metal Superstars”. What can we expect from these shows? Since you haven’t published any new material since your last visit with Moonsorrow in 2016, how are those shows going to be?

Let’s say that the fans of the new and the old material won’t be disappointed. Of course the same energy and happy feeling will be delivered trough the set.

SofN: Last year you came to Barcelona to play in quite a strange event called Knights of Metal. The line up was impressive but everything was conducted in a bit of a strange way from the outside eyes. How was your experience in that festival?

We’ve been playing lots of these kind of festivals and only thing matters is a happy audience. Nothing strange in that.

SofN: Also, this summer you will be playing in the Rock Fest Barcelona, completing 3 shows in the catalan capital in about a year and a triad of big spanish festivals where your music suits in, along with Leyendas del Rock and Resurrection Fest. What do you remember from your past presence in those festivals and what do you expect from the Rock Fest?

Shows we’re great and no memories after that, which is a great thing also.

SofN: Also, is there any special anecdote you remember from any of the multiple times you have been playing In Spain?

One time the accordion player missed the flight back to Finland because one of the hot long spanish nights. But that is all I can tell about this happening.

SofN: If you had to choose a single song from Korpiklaani’s catalog that you think it holds the essence of the band more than any other, which one would it be and why?

That is impossible to choose. This band has so many sides and every song is presenting it in it’s own way. Our songs are like feelings. You are sometimes happy, sometimes sad. You have to see the whole picture to understand.

SofN: And if you could put up a tour line up with any four bands, being Korpiklaani one of them, which ones would you choose and why?

Motörhead, Ramones and Hurriganes. There is enough rock ‘n’ roll in all of those bands. We would fit in perfectly.

SofN: Well, that’s all! Thank you very much for your time and see you soon in Barcelona!

Thank you! See you there soon!
