Mucha suerte. Tschüs.
¡Gracias por la entrevista!

(ENGLISH VERSION)

SofN: Hallo, Skoll. You have just released your new album, Apostasie which was the highest entrance of the week for a metal album in the German Charts. Did you expect so?

Of course you hope the best for your baby, but you don’t expect things. At least I try not to. It felt awesome to hear we would enter the charts. But seeing, you got better position then others like Samael or Enslaved, I really felt flattered and proud by all the support of our fans. Yes, I´m really happy about the entrance.

SofN: It’s quite difficult for me talk about a unique music style when talking about Nachtblut. In the album we can find black, gothic, industrial, techno and a lot of dark metal, but the lyrics are not the classical dark metal lyrics. How would you define Nachtblut’s music?

As you said its quite hard to talk about music, or define music in words. For me it’s like describing a colour to a blind person. So obviously I recommend to listen to music and Nachtblut to experience whole synthesis of the arts. Nachtblut‘s music … I would say we are dark, scary, melodic, driven, aggressive, hopeful, thoughtful, varied and honest. Just to mention a few points for the music and lyrics. We don’t like to set boundaries to ourselves.

SofN: As a band, you pay attention to the music, but also to the lyrics. There’s social and political messages that forces the listener to select on which side is. What do you look for with this?

Musicians and artist always expressed their opinion on social and political topics and issues in music. But for me this aspect faded more and more into the background. Listening to radio nowadays or watching music videos, in my point of view it’s just about “bubble-gum-happiness”. It seems to me that the lyrics and messages became platitudes, because it would be a pity to take a stand or even worse to offend someone with you opinion. For me  it’s better to offend someone, who then will argue and think about the issue you just stated, coming to a conclusion for himself and takes a stand, then supporting the way of those empty bullshit platitudes artists. It doesn’t matter if the person agrees or disagrees on the lyrics opinion, its more about to start thinking and reflecting your environment.

SofN In a world where everybody thinks that singing in English is obligatory for having success, one of the things I appreciate from you is that you’re still making your songs in German.  Why do you choose that?

Well, we all grew up in Germany, growing up with the German language. So we are mostly used to express our thoughts and feelings in German. It just feels natural to us to do so and that’s why we stick to it. Of course it’s easier to sing in English for having success outside of Germany, Austria, Switzerland, but it’s not necessary. This August we played an awesome China-Tour, which definitely proofed that also German lyrics working very well in non-German-speaking countries.

SofN: Have you ever think on making songs in English or hat any pressure from the record label for doing it?

No, there was never any pressure from Napalm Records. Also we never thought about it. If I have to think about it now, I guess the only reason we would do a song in English would be a feature with a friend who really can’t sing in German. But otherwise I don’t find an example now. I´m not even sure our songs would work in English.

SofN: Back again to Apostasie (2017) we can find the collaboration of Aeva Maurelle, from Aeverium in Einsam. How came up this collaboration? Why in this song?

We had this song and we were sure it’s gonna be a duet with a female singer. But for a long time, we didn’t know who should sing the song with Askeroth. We were pretty close to not putting it on Apostasie (2017), keeping it as an idea/demo for another time. I visited our friends of Lord Of The Lost at one of their concerts and Aeva was support with her band on that tour. I saw and heard her singing, took my phone, made a video, send to the guys and here we go. Of course between showing the video to my bandmates and recording the song, we had a talk with her and we easily figured out that we are on the same wavelength, so this was match.

SofN: «Der Tod Ist Meine Nutte», was the first song I listened from the album ´cos the title took my attention so much. Where is this idea born?

The song is a homage to black metal. We all listen or listened to black metal at some point. So we all got in contact with the black metal scene. And some people take some stuff to serious. And by some people I mean too many and with some stuff, I mean everything. I don’t remember how many times we heard stuff like “Never dare to call yourself black metal, cause your lyrics rhyme and they are understandable!” or “You are not black metal, because you production is to good”. So the song is perfect for those ultimate true elite black metal morals enforcers and officers. Beside all the grudge in the scene, everyone tries to be more “occult and extreme” than the other. So what could be more extreme, occult and evil than claiming “death himself is your hooker”? 😉

SofN: Mia Mane was the photographer for this album. The art cover is in b/w and the art and the band’s look is completely different from Dogma and Chimonas. What can you tell me about it? What wanted you tell with it?

The previous records always have been conceptual albums, Apostasie (2017) is not. There are no  limitations for creative decisions. Even if you are free in your creative work, with a concept you always put boundaries to yourself. So you can say, in some way Apostasie (2017) is very intimate. ‘Cause there is no conceptual filter, it’s the status quo on topics and musical influence of Nachtblut. So just painting our bodies black, seems to fit the level of intimacy as well. And also maybe having not a conceptual framework is a reason too, why it has a different feel/look, not just us wearing no stage outfit.

SofN: A friend of mine told me once: «Today Wacken, tomorrow the world». You conquered Wacken a few years ago, are you ready to conquer the world? Will you be touring in Spain soon?

Definitely yes! Like I said our tour in China have been great. So we got the proof we don’t have to hide ourselves in the German-speaking part of this world. Unfortunately some promoters still hesitate if you are not English-singing. But we are working on it. We always got great feedback from fans in Spain, so we really looking forward to celebrate our music someday with our fans in Spain.

SofN: I can’t finish this interview without asking about Amelie. How is she going after her accident?  Will she be able to play soon?

Yeah, that was really unlucky. At the moment she does everything for recovery. As there are no shows till 2018 I hope it’s enough time to recruit. But I´m positive that in 2018 she will be part of the shows and the whole touring process.

SofN: Thank you, for your time. I hope to see you soon on stage here. Viele Glück. Tschüs.

¡Gracias por la entrevista!
